Rehearsal

A permission slip to shoot. To kill.
No punishment, just after school detention
An automatic weapon gives a thrill
Awakes the spirit of contention.
Oh, self-defense is a tricky thing
One must defend with a semi-automatic.
The crowd is harmless; one acts as a king
The scene becomes chaotic and erratic.
So what is next for Rittenhouse?
A slap on the wrist and a peaceful dinner
Voracious cheers outside the courthouse
Three shot, two dead – but he is the winner.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving to you! I enjoy your poetry and often click on the audio portion to hear your recording. That makes the poems come alive in a new way, so thank you for doing that! As for Rittenhouse, let’s disagree. The crowd was not harmless, and while he had no business being in the midst of the riots, the evidence clearly showed he acted in self-defense. What’s next? Probably he’ll sue a bunch of people for false arrest and defamation of character. One question I have is this: He was a 17-year-old boy with two living parents, neither one of whom seemed to be exercising any parental control or direction. I wish you the happiest of holidays and continued success with your Blog!
